noatikl description
noatikl is a generative (MIDI) music engine. It creates musical information in the form of MIDI notes, and can also generate and send MIDI controller information to generatively control settings of your favourite synths, FX units and samplers.

There are variants available for both Win and Mac OS X, including plugin versions for e.g. Logic (Audio Unit [AU]), Sonar (VSTi, DXi MIDI Effects), Cubase (VSTi, MIDI Effects), Ableton Live (VSTi), Reaper (VSTi) etc. as well as a standalone version, very useful in its own right, for where there is no suitable plugin variant, e.g. Pro Tools.

noatikl has extensive built-in scripting features, and can also be used as a customisable hyperinstrument!

noatikl draws on the Zen koan tradition in that there seems no obvious way it generates its ideas, and it is pronounced "noh tickle". To quote a haiku by Mark Harrop:

Music, recorded,
A meal, frozen.
noatikl: Real,
home, fresh cooking.

Use noatikl to...
Generate new musical ideas
*Break composer's block
*Augment an existing musical work
*Create ambient sound tracks
*Experiment with generative music systems
*Noodle with music sculptures
*Generatively change synth, FX and sampler settings
*Build your own hyperinstrument
*Get creative with scripting
*Simply have fun creating music!

noatikl's roots

noatikl is created by Pete Cole and Tim Cole, creators of the 2001 BAFTA-award winning SSEYO Koan Interactive Audio

Platform, and the 2005 BAFTA-award winning SSEYO miniMIXA.

Way back in 1990, the Intermorphic team co-founded SSEYO Ltd, the company that developed the legendary SSEYO Koan Music Engine. SSEYO was acquired by Tao Group in 2002 where they worked until June 2007, when Tao folded.

This important watershed allowed Intermorphic to "go independent" and (from June 07) start building an all new generative music MIDI engine - noatikl. Intermorphic bring to this new development the years of experience they have of developing generative music engines, and a past user base who is keen to see what they can do next. Intermorphic hope that they do not disappoint, and noatikl is already much more powerful and versatile than Koan ever was.
